Position: Manager of Interface Development Type: Full Time
Location: Chicago, IL Job Description The Manager of Interface Development will lead an energetic group of 8-10 Interface Developers. The main responsibility of the position is to support, coach, and mentor the group in all aspects of their work, and ensure cross-office collaboration and knowledge sharing occurs within the group. The Manager is responsible for collaborating directly with the Engineering, Creative and User Experience teams and the other Fry disciplines to ensure the technical accuracy and proper implementation of the user interface according to Fry front-end development coding standards and best practices in web development. Position Responsibilities * Assist and support the Interface Development Team with their projects. Help to coordinate cross-project collaboration and knowledge sharing. * Introduce staff to new techniques and interface development methods. * Work across teams to define and optimize development processes * Ensure that Fry websites adhere to web standards and best practices guidelines including organic search engine optimization and accessibility development techniques * Participate in projects in the role of Senior Interface Developer, Interface Developer, or both. * Work very closely with Software Engineers, Creative Designers and Information Architects to ensure successful implementation of new interface design and functionality. * Research and investigate new options and features for Fry to incorporate into the user interface. * Coordinate weekly or bi-weekly meetings and other staff improvement activities for the Interface Development Team. * Work with the Interface Development Team to define and complete objectives on a timely basis; work with Technical Director to help set quarterly Interface Development Team goals with additional input from the Executive Creative Director and the Director of UEG. * Attend conferences, professional meetings, and represent the Interface Development Team on internal initiatives as appropriate. * Code design comps, wire frames or prototypes into working web interfaces.? * Ensure final products meet the Interface Development Team and Fry standards. * Awareness and understanding of latest user interface and interaction design trends. * Image/multimedia asset preparation * Cross-Browser/Cross-Platform knowledge and coding compliance Position Requirements * At least 7+ years of software development experience * 2+ years experience managing a web design/development team * Strong organizational skills to manage multiple projects, issues, and priorities effectively and simultaneously, with attention to detail. * Organized, able to act independently, and able to switch rapidly between different projects in a fast-paced environment. * Solid understanding of information architecture and interaction design principles. * Ability to collaborate effectively and actively as part of multi- disciplinary teams. * Proven ability to effectively manage time and priorities.
