*DNS Engineer*
Location: Sterling VA
Duration: 6+ months
*Position Description:*
*Responsible for:*
§ Demonstrated strength in writing, presenting ideas to internal and
external technical audiences, in particular, architecture and design
documents.
§ Evaluating and providing analysis on buy vs. build decisions to provide
cost-effective solutions that meet business and technology requirements
§ Understanding and enhancing our services, while maintaining the integrity
of our distributed, international, carrier class global network
§ Conceptualizing, designing and participating in multiple high profile
projects concurrently.
§ Hands-on expertise with BIND, nsd, PowerDNS, Unbound highly desirable
§ Assess business and technology initiatives, providing consultation,
technical support, and recommendations both within and outside NeuStar
§ Develop and utilize capacity planning and application analysis techniques
for application performance and sizing
§ Perform complex technical analysis of software, hardware, and network
systems.
§ Work with Business Functional Units to transform concepts to
architectures and system designs that others will construct, integrate and
implement.
§ Provide high level estimates of complexity and effort required by
development teams to deliver business concepts
§ Create and maintain architectural drawings and narratives of the UltraDNS
Services for both internal and external audiences.
§ Maintain knowledge and understanding of the DNS industry activities and
future directions
§ In-depth knowledge of IP networking, LAN/WAN technology, and routing and
switching.
§ Expert level knowledge of core networking technologies and concepts such
as Layer 2 and Layer 3 protocols
§ Expert knowledge of IP addressing schemes and DNS
§ Experience in dealing with ARIN, APNIC, and other address registries
desirable
§ Ability to quickly analyze problems and to implement standard and
extensible solutions.
§ Willingness and ability to teach, mentor and train others
§ Demonstrated capability to effectively work with virtual teams
§ Strong troubleshooting skills
§ Position is in Sterling, VA
§ Demonstrated ability to multitask and work effectively under deadline
§ Experience with the following job functions, tasks:
o Architecting and designing large scale, multi-component applications in
centralized and distributed development environments
o Is considered an expert in the networking fields by peers and management
**
o Is often the final escalation point to perform troubleshooting and
technical problem analysis and resolution**
*Required Technical Skills:*
· Previous experience as a software development engineer in at least
two of the following languages: Java, C++, Python, PHP.
· Understanding of, and experience with, common software-related
concepts, e.g.:
· Object Oriented Design and Programming
· Database design principles (Oracle 10G)
· Waterfall, Agile SDLC processes
· Memory and resource leaks
· Deadlocks
· Experience with advanced MSFT-Office tools (MS-Project, Visio)
