*Job Title                       DB2 DBA*

*Project Location         Harrisburg, PA*

*Duration                     6+ Months/Contract*

*Skills Required and Job Description:*

*ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES *
*Application Administration (35%) *

·         Participate in the planning and coordination of application
software installations, patches, hot fixes, or maintenance to Advanced
Interactive Executive (AIX) and/or new technology (NT) application servers
or database software installations, or maintenance to DB2 or SQL Server
software for the products that Information Technology (IT) supports.

·         Work with vendors, system administrators, developers and other
departments within the client to support and complete a variety of tasks
(e.g. design system configurations, support complicated client workstation
issues, integrate systems with ECSS, correct system problems and etc.)
across various test and production systems.

·         Integrate commercial systems with internal systems.

·         Enforce the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)
controls for standardized secure installation and maintenance of computer
software and hardware.

·         Work with various proprietary administration tools to handle
database modifications and application configuration.

·         Promote software customizations through the various test, quality
assurance and production systems.


*Database Administration (30%)*

·         Create and schedule database maintenance scripts for clients
commercial software (e.g. backup/recovery, reorgs, and run stats for DB2
and SQL Server).

·         Continual support for disaster recovery plan.

·         Support IBM DB2 LUW, and SQL Server database structures.

·         Create UNIX scripts to monitor database performance and use the
information to improve the system.


*Research (30%)*

·         Work with AIX and NT administrators, middleware, and other IT
professionals to trouble shoot system problems, and provide performance
tuning and capacity planning.

·         Extensive research (e.g. trouble shoot issues, apply maintenance,
service packs, perform upgrades, remain current on new technology, and Tier
3 support) using internet, vendors, and coworkers.

·         Through research and analysis, deliver the technical design,
programming, code review, integration, unit testing, and implementation of
customizations for purchased commercial systems.

·         Use system logs and various performance tools to debug
applications, database corruption, and database performance issues.


*NON ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITES (5%)*

·         Provide weekly status updates, time reporting, and participate in
team meetings.

·         Responsible for documentation, tracking, controlling, &
prioritizing open projects.

·         Other duties as assigned.


*QUALIFICATIONS*
*EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: *

·         Bachelor degree in IT related field and two to four years of
experience in an application development or database administration role or
an equivalent combination of experience and training/certification.

·         Effective communication skills necessary to make yourself
understood when speaking about complex technical subjects.

·         Proficient in IBM DB2 and/or SQL Server DBMS.

·         Competent skills to debug and dig deeply into one specific task
to uncover root cause and provide solution(s).

·         Proficient use of the UNIX and NT operating systems and scripting.

·         Understand client/server and web architectures.

·         Understand Systems Development Life Cycle, including system
requirements, analysis, design, development, testing and implementation.

·         Solid knowledge and concepts of purchased commercial systems
maintenance, upgrades and customizations.

·         Understand concepts, characteristics, and capabilities of
information technology hardware, software and networks.

·         Proven documentation skills.

·         Intermediate MS Office Suite products.

·         Understanding of client/server and web architectures.


*Preferred experience qualifications: *

·         Working knowledge and understanding of the student financial aid
industry

·         Knowledge of the products client supports including but not
limited to:

PeopleSoft

PeopleTools

DB2

RSA Adaptive Authentication

CA Service Desk

SQL Server




*PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS & WORK ENVIRONMENT*

·         This position requires participation in a 24x7x365 on-call
rotation. The frequency of the rotation depends on the number of members in
the team. On-call requires carrying a cell-phone and responding to calls
within the agreed upon timeframe set within company standards. Internet
connectivity from home is required as part of the on-call rotation.

·         Sedentary work (office environment).

·         Flexible for occasional off-site travel for training.

·         Frequently requires repetitive motions (substantial movements of
the wrist, hand, and/or fingers).
