Release Coordinator

Qualifications: 

Our client is seeking an experienced IT professional with a background developing and implementing business applications to drive solutions to resolve enterprise business issues. The preferred candidate must have a solid work history within the IT industry in a role directly involved in the development, implementation or operations support of IT solutions. Practical experience working as a programmer/analyst, project manager or coordinator, functional tester or business analyst is preferred and all candidates must have previous experience working within a large enterprise environment and can demonstrate excellent teamwork and communications skills. Candidates with previous IT Consulting experience are highly desired for this position.

 
Strategic: 


The Release Coordinator(IC) is accountable to the Release Manager. The Release Coordinator is an integral part of the Release Team being actively involved in the day-to-day activities of Release Management in an overall planning capacity responsible for the deployment of custom software into the production environment.  To support that goal, Release Coordinators develop Release Plans and oversee the executable actions to promote the software to the production environment.

 

·         The RC is responsible for creating the documentation needed for the project implementation; topics such as rollouts, contingency plans, communications, dependencies, etc. 

·         The RC is the owner of the implementation test and responsible for coordinating the instructions, setting up and/or installing on the environments, obtaining approvals to install in test environments, help in resolving defects.

·         The RC will fill out all documentation needed for production such as change management templates, instructions and deliverables.  Also obtaining all final approvals from various areas to implement to a production environment.

·         Coordinating the actual implementation such as who should be involved, timelines and logistics.

·         Responding to emergency needs after implementation such as getting all the appropriate documentation in place, obtaining approvals and communicating the implementation.

·         Responsible for providing status updates to management and project teams. 


This role consists of having good leadership skills, communication skills, attention to detail and being self-motivated. Must be able to communicate both orally and written to all levels, including management, project teams and outside areas.  Coordination skills are required to gather information, details and people to implement a project successfully. Multitasking is essential  to complete and/or coordinate multiple tasks and activities at the same time, or across several projects.  Technical knowledge is needed for J2EE (Websphere), Host, and Window/Unix platforms.  Examples may include building environments for J2EE (Websphere) projects, helping troubleshoot problems or defects that may arise from testing or production and knowledge of how to install to those systems, or ability to learn quickly.  Ability to work under tight timelines when emergency changes need to be issued.
 

Responsibilities and Duties:


·       Create and maintain the Release Plan.
·       Create and steward the Release Record through the Change process.
·       Coordinate planning information about the release within the release team.
·       Facilitate engagement and readiness assessments of work efforts included in Release – includes Test, SLM, Configuration Management and Change.
·       Assist Release Manager in coordinating activities of the Release Management process throughout the Release lifecycle.
·       Support the Release Manager in carrying out activities that have been delegated to the Release Coordinator
·       Ensure all Release tasks are being completed in a timely manner.
·       Monitor external dependencies to a Release and communicates any impacts to the Release team
·       Ensure outstanding defects (known errors) are reported and managed.
·       Coordinate IT service and business functional support throughout the Release lifecycle until acceptance by Service
·       Work with Release Communications to create appropriate communications to all stakeholders regarding a Release.
·       Provide input to the final implementation sign-off process.
·       Develop Executive Go/No-Go Decision Documentation.
·       Plan the deployment in conjunction with Test, Change, SLM and Configuration Management.
·       Coordinate and plan all logistics during Release Management Cycle within the release team, as needed. 
·       Coordinate the Business Check out activities for the Release, as needed.
·       Responsible for reporting of defects of Post Implementation and during ELS. 
·       Coordinate ELS Activities (including facilitating the ELS meetings) with SLM until transition to Service.
·       Participate in Post Implementation Reviews (PIR) and facilitate Release Retrospective sessions. 
·       Provide input for Release improvements (Continuous Service Improvements – CSI). 
·       Complete training and be a key resource representing the Release Management Discipline across the area and Enterprise.

- Broad technical knowledge is preferred (Java, Client Server and Mainframe
- Knowledge of mainframe technologies and tools (DB2) is preferred
- Working knowledge of project methodologies (i.e. waterfall, scrum, agile), leadership skills, familiarity with Systems Technical Architectures, experience and familiarity with implementation processes and procedures on various platforms, knowledge and experience with service management and ITIL processes.
