Role : Data Analyst / Modeler 

Location : Erlanger, KY

Data Modeler will be responsible for the structuring and organization of data 
in the development of technical solutions. The Data Modeler will provide 
support 
to user communities by understanding the business uses of data and translate 
business needs into a data model that will serve in the development of the 
solution. He/She will work with technical teams to translate conceptual data 
models into logical and physical models in support of development efforts. 
The Data Modeler will adhere to data standards and will provide metadata 
management, 
working constantly to refine the data into precise data models specifying 
entities, 
attributes and data relationships.

Responsibilities may include: 1. Provides data modeling, data validation, 
creation 
of conceptual and logical data models, and mapping to physical data models 
using standard modeling tools

Takes direction from Data Architects in establishing new models

 

Primary focus is on


1. Developing relational models within an Enterprise Data warehouse environment.

2. Interfaces with user communities to collect and understand business 
requirements 
and how these groups utilize their data sets

3. Analyzes data requirements from business and object specifications

4. Provides support in the use of the enterprise data including guidance in 
understanding and exploitation of the underlying data and business models.

5. Capture and develop data model metadata and manage/administer the metadata 
repository

6. Create data flow and entity relationship diagrams

7. Develop logical data models, understanding the data entities and their 
relationships 
with systems and applications, and validate these models with end users

8. Map logical data models to physical data models and work with technical 
teams to incorporate these into the technical solution

9. Assist in source-to-target mapping, understanding the source data and 
identifying 
the appropriate data sources

10. Develops data integration rule set when mapping data from multiple sources

11. Define and enforce standards and conventions (definition, naming, 
abbreviation).

12. Participate as required in database design, development and implementation, 
working with DBAs and database development teams to ensure that data processing 
meets business requirements

13. Develops or reviews data models for new systems and reviews proposed 
changes 
to existing systems to determine impact on corporate data

 

Requirements:


• BS or BA degree in computer science, business administration, or

related technical field or equivalent experience is required


• Minimum 5 - 6 years of data modeling experience in large enterprise

environments working with large RDBMS and data warehousing systems


• Strong logical and physical data modeling, UML, metadata and data profiling

experience including prior work with standard tools (ERWIN, Rational Rose, 
ER/Studio) and methodologies


• Strong analytical skills with the ability to create mappings between source

and target systems.


• Ability to analyze source/transactional data to quickly

understand relationships and identify issues related to models being created.


• Familiarity with major relational databases including Oracle, DB2, SQL

Server, Essbase, Sybase


• Knowledge & understanding of reference data concepts and issues
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work 
with technical and non-technical teams at all levels, including senior 
management. 
This should include strong communication skills to enable ETL and Business 
Intelligence teams to use developed models.
