Position : Oracle DBA Rate : Open Location : Brooklyn, NY Start Date : 03-01-2011 End Date : 02--28-2013 *Visa status : USC, GC, EAD* The client's IT organization is looking to hire a DBA to help implement a transactional data warehouse solution, using clients framework of Oracle Databases and the IBM Datastage platform. * * *The resource will be responsible for but not limited to the following: * * Provides overall database architecture, design, installation, configuration, technical support and maintenance of the Oracle 11g databases in a Storage Area Network and Cluster Server environment. * Responsible for providing application development support for Query Optimization, Stored Procedures, Triggers, Indexes etc. for multiple development applications. * Functions as a subject-matter expert, ensuring accuracy and completeness of data backup and recovery and formulates and monitors policies, procedures and standards relating to database management. * Maintains error and system maintenance logs, administers replication and log shipping for large databases and issues reports on a regular basis. * Monitors, performs and troubleshoots on a daily basis ETL (Extract, Transform and Load) jobs to ensure data integrity utilizing FTP (File Transfer Protocol), Command Scripts, Task Scheduler, BCP (Bulk Copy Program), DTS (Data Transformation Services), and SSIS (SQL Server Integration Services). * Monitors databases for optimal performance and establishes and monitors best practices, policies and procedures. * Responsible for promoting stored procedures and database schema into multiple environments i.e. QA, Staging and Production. Responsible for configuration and change management of these environments. * Monitors Oracle server activities on a proactive basis and makes adjustments as necessary to assure continued performance. * Administers user accounts and monitors security requirements of the database. * Develops database security standards compatible with efficient user operation and system security requirements. * Ensures the on-going operation of databases and related applications by developing, testing and implementing appropriate back-up and recovery procedures, conducting periodic tuning of the databases, capturing and reporting database usage statistics as required, regularly monitoring space usage, allocating disk space and providing technical support as needed. * Coordinates troubleshooting activities with support organizations of external vendors to resolve production configuration issues, to maximize platform performance, and to proactively assess platform configuration and standards. * Plans, executes, and documents migration activities for software version updates and service pack installations. * Evaluates additional software tools as needed to improve operational efficiency in fulfilling the duties and responsibilities of the position. * Acts in a mentoring role to junior members of the Database Administration team, communicating team priorities, platform standards, operational procedures, and strategic vision to other team members. *Required Skills* The successful candidate must have minimally achieved the following level of experience: * Must be a technical hands-on person able to demonstrate 5-10 years of experience working as an Oracle DBA in data related projects (building Data Warehouses). Candidates without recent Oracle experience will not be considered! * Experience Installing from Scratch a High Availability and clustering environment in an Oracle 11g RAC in Linux environment. * Demonstrated expertise in identifying DB performance (optimizing SQL queries) and scalability bottlenecks both recommending and coding solutions is a must. * Expert understanding of the Oracle database architecture, database administration and security * Deep understanding of relational DBMS, SQL & PLSQL development - writing stored procedures, functions & triggers.
