** Java Engineer - Prefer some one who can speak Chinese Location: Salt Lake City, UT Duration: 12+ Months Rate: market Background • BS EE or CS degree • 8 + years related experience (or Masters and 6 + years related experience or PhD and 4+ years experience) • Strong English skills (written and verbal) • Fluent in Chinese a plus Technical Skills • Expert Java developer, including solid experience with JSP and Tag Libraries, JPA, Hybernate or other ORM Frameworks, Grails, groovy, GSP, jQuery, Spring Components including IoC, Spring Security, and Junit • Expert in creating and consuming REST services and integrating them with core application logic • Solid experience with Service Oriented Architectures, including both creating and consuming REST, XML, and WSDL/SOAP interfaces • Solid understanding of SQL, Oracle, and ETL processes • Solid understanding of XHTML (including validation and compliance), HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and AJAX, including cross-browser compatibility solutions • Solid experience developing Java solutions for high-volume, high-transaction, environments • Expertise with data security and PCI compliance desired • Prefer experience with the following: Hudson, test-driven development, and continuous integration; billing and payment systems; scrum and agile development methodologies; localization and internationalization Skills • Can be relied on to deliver features and sub-systems on time and to requirements, without quality issues. • Generally correctly estimates software schedules. • Basic mastery of feature or subsystem reusability, modularity, or scaling. • Works well within a team, and contributes effectively to the success of those that they interact with regularly. • Understands and is able to reason about the business, as it relates to their area of expertise. • Can triage and resolve site issues with supervision. • Able to evangelize innovations, through prototyping or other means. Supervision • Receives direction in terms of the desired outcome or strategic objectives. • Can be given new feature or subsystem assignments with minimal supervision; establishes working relationships that enable self-direction in gathering requirements and scoping work. • Frequently coordinates activities of junior engineers assigned to the same feature or subsystem. Job Scope • Owns and is accountable for the design and development of a product feature or sub-system • Spends most of the time developing code, and efficiently produces elegant, clean code with no unnecessary complication or abstraction. • Code is well-commented, easy to maintain, and can be reused across a sub-system or feature. Code may persist for the lifetime of a software version • Code is thoroughly tested with very few bugs, and is supported by unit tests. • Regularly leads feature or sub-system design reviews and code reviews and is fully recognized as the go-to developer for that component. • Participates in architecture discussions, regularly proposes and discusses solutions to system and product changes that are directly related to their area of focus. Interaction • Frequently interfaces with other functional teams on all aspects of a feature or sub-system. • Influences team and management on product direction, particularly related to their area of focus and expertise. • Provides leadership to others, particularly junior engineers who work on the same team or related features or product sub-systems. Architecture and Design • Expert in MVC, design patterns, and UX design principles • Appreciation for simple code; avoids over-architecting • Designs are generally correct and consider the broad implications of the design upon larger systems.
