Purpose
AS/400 Systems Programmer/Administrator



Duties and Responsibilities
Responsible for the systems administration, installation, support and 
maintenance of the Operating System,
and Associated System software products.
Provide overall IBM Power System technical and operational support
Support AWD development team with application software implementation for 
scheduled updates
Maintain custom developed interfaces between scanning application and IBM Power 
System
Provide technical infrastructure support for i5 system software including but 
not limited to:-

*         Operating system (V6R1), CL, DDS, i5 system utilities,  performance 
tools,

Query, MQ, iDoctor, System i Access for Windows/Client Access, etc.

*         Support and maintenance of IBM-released technical updates and 
temporary software fixes

*         Install and test new versions of i5 system software releases when 
needed

*         Troubleshoot i5 hardware and software problems as required

*         Assist in implementation, maintenance, and support of i5 system 
security

*         Install, maintain and provide technical and operational support for 
third party systems software

*         Maintain and periodically test data replication and system switch 
procedures

*         Maintain and support the current 'Back-Up and Recovery Strategy'. 
Implement and enhance as required.

*         Ensure that procedures are in compliance with applicable company 
standards and regulations.
Develop and implement needed operational standards and performance measures 
that reflect desired quality
and service levels.
Monitor and track IBM Power System performance including identify and help 
resolve any hardware,
system software, application software, operational or capacity issues





Describe the specialized knowledge, experience, and technical skills that must 
be applied to meet the position's responsibilities.  Note the minimum years of 
work experience needed -- general business experience vs. specifically related 
experience (e.g., computer skills, LAN knowledge, graphics).  Please list 
languages, platform, mfr. (e.g. Microsoft), version, and Integrated Development 
Environment (IDE).  Ex: Visual C, Borland C, C++, Visual Basic, Java, NT3.51/NT 
4.0, Visual Studio ver. 7.0.  All qualifications are assumed to be required 
unless stated preferred.





Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent; a Bachelor's degree is preferred
Minimum of 5 years of experience as an i5 Systems Administrator/Systems Engineer
Knowledgeable and conversant in best practices for the and IBM Power System 
systems
Experienced in CL programming
Familiar TCP/IP, DNS, Telnet, DHCP, and FTP.
Ability to recognize and solve problems
Ability to work independently and as a self-starter; able to effectively 
prioritize and manage projects/problems
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Ability to work well in a team environment
Experience with Vision Solutions MIMIX Replicator
Experience with DST AWD application a plus
Familiar with BRMS, Control-M, Turnover, SQL and MQ


Special Factors

On call support required
Ability to work flexible work schedules as required and provide scheduled and 
emergency off-hours
(e.g., nights, holidays, and weekends) support
