*Build/Release Engineer *

*Location: San Francisco*

*Long Term contract position*



*Overview of Position:*

The Release Engineer will be responsible for provisioning, deploying
complex website assets, configuring and quickly troubleshooting virtual
test environments for the eCommerce arm of Macy’s. The candidate will also
be responsible for developing and maintaining automation components for
builds, deployments and tracking.



The Release Engineering team is embarking on an exciting transformation of
the Release pipeline. This will need the Release Engineer to work closely
with software development, QA and production support teams for deployment
automation, enforce good release practices and resolve issues as they arise.



*Key Accountabilities:*

•             Provision, maintain and support extensive test and
production-like environments in a timely manner for multiple concurrent
releases.

•             Frequently deploy, configure and support multiple complex
interdependent web applications into environments
(QA/Performance/PreProduction).

•             Learn the deployment and troubleshooting aspects of new site
level projects and artifacts coming through the development pipeline.

•             Perform release activities in coordination with Project
Management, QA, Release Management and Web Development teams in a timely
and efficient manner.

•             Implement and support existing and new automation solutions
for release tasks, including:

•             Build

•             Application deployment

•             Database change

•             Continuous Integration

•             Work with offshore teams, with a goal to achieve a 24/7
support model.



*Skills Summary:*

•             Solid understanding and practical experience of Agile SDLC,
with particular emphasis on release engineering functions.

•             Strong release tooling and operations automation background.

•             Strong aptitude towards understanding complex existing
provisioning and deployment mechanisms, with an ability to support and
enhance them.

•             Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

•             Experience working with rapid, overlapping product release
cycles and shifting priorities.

•             An ability to articulate deployment requirements for
automation.

•             Willingness to work occasional evenings and weekend rotations.



*Required Technical Skills*

•             BA/BS degree in Computer Science, or equivalent work
experience.

•             4+ years in a UNIX/Linux Release Engineering role, including

•             Building J2EE based applications with Maven

•             Continuous Integration (Hudson/ Jenkins preferred)

•             Deploying websites

•             Isolating build/deployment issues versus code issues

•             eCommerce experience preferred

•             4+ years working with web server technologies (2+ with
WebSphere)

•             4+ years using major relational databases (DB2 preferred)
with 1+ years in DB change management (Liquibase, DBMaintain, etc.)

•             2+ years of Python, Perl and/or UNIX shell scripting



*Desirable Technical Skills*

•             Deployment automation experience (e.g. AnthillPro, XFlow,
scripted workflows, etc.)

•             Infrastructure automation experience (e.g. Chef, Puppet, etc.)

•             Subversion (SVN) administration experience.

•             Hands on Java/JSP, HTML/XML programming experience.

•             Retail industry experience.

•             Experience implementing or using Continuous Delivery
methodologies.



*Soft Skills*

•             Excellent customer service attitude, communication skills
(written and verbal), and interpersonal skills.

•             Patience and perseverance in following best practices for
process improvements.

•             Ability to plan long-term, but execute goals in tangible
short-term incrementals.

•             Ability to work under pressure and in high stress situations
with a calm demeanor.
