Yes, feel free to dive in by all means. The main problem I guess is that most of the open bugs still need some sort of design decision to be made, so there probably won't be too many that you can just pick up and write some text for straight away.
Of course, we're always very happy to have docs people involved in those design decisions too-- if it's hard to write about, it's often because it's hard to use.
(Where is the HIG in CVS, by the way?)
'cvs co hig' should get it for you, although that's just an alias that Seth set up... it really lives in web-devel-2/content/projects/ gup/hig.
