I'am personally not missing a function like this but I would not complain.
At Microsoft Vista i saw these days a nice feature regarding to disk usage.

The explorer shows up a bar visualisation of the current disk usage, 
thats very fine.

I found a sample at the net

Why not to implement this into Gnome, the Usage Data is still available 
(without calculating to much). The Hard Disk View in Nautilus currently 
just gives  pointless info which means there is  graphically space for 
this feature.
