I´d like to suggest
Ctrl-Alt-Del to run the System Monitor
by default,
For the users who rather using the console,
it could be turned back the the original
fron the Panel: System --> Preferences --> Keyboard shortcuts
and/or
from inside the own System Monitor on the Preferences menu
