It is hard to make suggestions without knowing more about your paper. Have a look round the usability part of the GNOME wiki [1] if you want to find out more about what we do. The HIG [2] might be interesting. If you'd like to help out, you could do a heuristic evalution [3, 4] of a part of GNOME. I can point you in the direction of some good contenders there.
