Apologies for cross-posting. SECOND CALL FOR CASES NEW proposal Submission Deadline: MARCH 30, 2012
Cases on Usability Engineering: Design and Development of Digital Products A book edited by Dr. Miguel A. Garcia-Ruiz, Algoma University, Canada Book Web page: http://people.auc.ca/garcia/cfc_cases_on_usability_engineering.html To be published by IGI Global: http://www.igi-global.com/ Introduction Through the discussion and examination of specific cases on the usability testing of digital products, students are given insight into professional issues through the trials, “war stories”, practical experiences, and research findings of practitioners, specialists, lecturers, and usability researchers. One advantage of using case studies as a mode of instruction is that it allows computing students to acquire necessary competences through exposure to contexts and settings that they might not otherwise experience in educational settings. Writing case studies on usability should require the “coming together” of science, technology and social knowledge in an interdisciplinary fashion, since the field of usability is supported by a number of knowledge areas. This book will include new perspectives from top researchers and practitioners around the world on how and why usability can support the design and development of digital products, such as electronic toys, video games, Web pages, information systems, and mobile computer applications, among others. Cases on Usability Engineering will be a comprehensive—yet specialized—compendium of usability case studies using state-of-the-art socio-technical approaches. Overall Objective of the Book This book will include case studies on the rationale, state-of-the-art studies, proof-of-concepts, and real-life examples of usability methods and techniques which test the design and development of digital products. These cases are optimal for usability, human-computer interaction, human factors, ergonomics, software engineering, and related courses. Target Audience The target audience of this book includes computer science students, lecturers, instructors, and academics from related areas. In addition, this book will capture the attention of all those engaged in fields such as knowledge management, information technologies, computer networks, and human factors. Recommended topics include, but are not limited to, the following: Web pages Video games Digital toys Multimodal interfaces Visual, tactile, and auditory interfaces Olfactory interfaces In-car human-computer interfaces Mobile computer applications Human-computer Interfaces for disabled people and people with special needs Augmented/virtual reality Brain-computer interfaces Security interfaces Educational software/hardware Ubiquitous computing Industrial interfaces E-commerce E-government Digital Libraries The book will also include case studies on the following topics: Prototypes for testing the usability of digital products Formative and summative usability methods Sustainable Human-Computer Interaction Return on Investment (ROI) from usability Usability of consumer products Ethical issues and best practices on usability Submission Procedure Lecturers, researchers and practitioners are invited to submit on or before March 30, 2012, a 2-3 page case proposal clearly explaining the mission and concerns of his or her proposed case, including the overall problem(s) in the case and factors affecting the problem(s) related to the case. Authors of accepted proposals will be notified by April 7, 2012 about the status of their proposals and sent case guidelines. Full cases are expected to be submitted by June 1, 2012. All submitted cases will be reviewed on a double-blind review basis. Contributors may also be requested to serve as reviewers for this project. Publisher This book is scheduled to be published in 2013 by IGI Global (formerly Idea Group Inc.), publisher of the “Information Science Reference” (formerly Idea Group Reference), “Medical Information Science Reference,” “Business Science Reference,” and “Engineering Science Reference” imprints.
