Bug ID: 288968
Summary: hw.usb.usbhid.enable=1 fails for text console input
under macOS Parallels (aarch64 context): typing
discarded
Product: Base System
Version: 15.0-CURRENT
Hardware: Any
OS: Any
Status: New
Severity: Affects Only Me
Priority: ---
Component: usb
Assignee: [email protected]
Reporter: [email protected]
After some freebsd-current list activity, I was asked to
submit a PR for it. I make no claim that Parallels is
important here, it just happens to be the context I use.
Same for macOS being involved.
Note: My initial selection of "usb" for Component is a
guess at the proper categorization.
The type of issue: my typing input is ignored.
I'll start with the information that goes beyond what
I have provided by testing and reporting: Jordan Gordeev
wrote after requesting the submittal . . .
QUOTE
I've started debugging it and have some partial results.
Key presses are handled perfectly but due to bad keyboard
state, any input is mistakenly discarded.
END QUOTE
Jordan also guided my testing/reporting.
The failures are when the FreeBSD kernel is involved,
not the FreeBSD EFI loader stage.
The failure is not specific to my official pkgbased system
configurations for FreeBSD 15. Also observed for the
installer stage of use of:
FreeBSD-14.3-RELEASE-arm64-aarch64-bootonly.iso
FreeBSD-15.0-CURRENT-arm64-aarch64-20250807-02f394281fd6-279407-bootonly.iso
I tried Video instead of Serial : same as well.

For some output from hw.hid.hkbd.debug="100" use see:

FYI:
By contrast, hw.usb.usbhid.enable=0 works.
