For Windows use shell, example below:
set the hideconsolewindows to true
get shell("attrib" && quote & myFile & quote && "+r") // read only
to make writtable again
set the hideconsolewindows to true
get shell("attrib" && quote & myFile & quote && "-r")
Of course you can use "+r +s +h" attributes as well, read only, system,
hidden.
