Interestingly it works without quotes around test.
It does work but should it?
This suggests the only reason for quotes in array keys is in case you have a
two word key?
put merge("SELECT [[tColumns]] FROM '[[tTable]]' [[myArray[test]]]
[[tSortOrder]]") into tSQL
