If you don't provide a splash screen for a newer screen size (in your LC app), then the OS presumes that your app hasn't been updated to support that screen resolution and so runs it in a compatibility mode at the largest size you do have a splash screen for. You can try it on the iPhone X simulator to see how your app will look like.
