Hi Mark,
No need to use AppleScript. It should be something like this:
create alias "/system/library/startupitems/yourapp.alias" to file "/
volumes/diskimage/yourapp.app"
and you can do the same in Windows, using the path to the startup
folder in the start menu folder.
