Well, it doesn't solve my problem at this time. I suppose I'll have to write a parent recursive routine "isEffectiveVisibile" to walk through all the groups.
Ken Ray pointed out sharply this isn't the case with 'disabled.' When you disable a group, it disables all the controls within the group.
