Hi Tiemo,

The shared data folder is accessible to the entire local network and sometimes beyond that. You don't want to put any data there. I don't even put public data into that folder. I prefer to decide by myself which folder to share with whom.

The folders you want to use on Mac OS X are /library/preferences for all users and ~/library/preferences for the current user.
