One could, of course, go for something Open Source which everybody
could watch, trouble-free (and 'tooth-sucking-free' whether about
Microsoft or Apple) with VLC:

You'll have noticed that Bill uses a PC and Kevin uses a Mac. I'm not sure there are as many built in options for making mp4 under Windows. Unless the PC has iTunes on it, in which case it might be easier.
