Yes, they did, and then, having promised a "twin-track" system with a
NextStep development (i.e. X) and a continuation of what is now coyly
called "Classic", they renaged and left us with X, which still looks
like a work
in progress.
Reminds me of Windows 98; which, if you are a Windows fan, was a fairly
high point. Followed up by Millennium (cough, cough, splutter)!
