Update has never worked in Linux - at least since before 2.6.1.  So if it now
shows what is available, even if it will not download it, it is making
progress, it didn't even use to do that.  

There are a number of key indicators that the Linux version is being taken
seriously as a professional product, and fixing this would be one of them.
Not fixing it for year after year sends a very clear message too.
