Well, your model, as you point out is, sort of the way things are done now. I think the idea of ransomware was to find an alternative approach that would involve less legalistic stuff and more open sharing.

Clearly both models can co-exist with many others.

We are actually doing this now - except the developer and investor are
usually the same person.
