I am not criticizing anyone who spends their own money on the thing. There is no accounting for tastes. If however its money that is devoted to a purpose that is being spent, and one is administering the funds, buying Minis strikes me as fiscally irresponsible to the point of immorality.
While I see your point of view Peter, IMO you are ignoring the total cost of ownership. In my case, the amount of time needed to learn a Linux system, administer it satisfactorily, and keep it maintained, would vastly out-weigh the extra cost of a Mac Mini in the first place.
