Recently Jeanne A. E. DeVoto kindly explained -  "The result is set to "can't open file" if you try to change a file
that's  already open in another application. This is "the way it should be"; you can't modify a file in two apps at
once, because the other application has no way of knowing that the file has been changed out from under it.
(Another way of putting this is that files are locked when an application opens them, and while they're locked they
can't be written to by any other app.)"

Ah yes -  I see it all now!  I  will turn my fubars into fruit bats and all will be well.

Actually I was watching the results but I thought Revolution was telling me that I had an error in the path or the code. Can the result changed to something like "Already open in another application" for the enlightenment of the termianlly ignorant? :)

I have succeeded in bringing a document to the foreground for word processing while launching Word. Is there a way to use Revolution to select other Word documents for processing once the application is up and running?

Many thanks - Gary
