I couldn't resist. Although no one has commented on my question on this
fine Sunday, I went on to write a calendar stack. It shows the current
year, and changes to the next or previous year at the press of a button. It
works instantly--just as fast as the HyperCard XCMD I have been using for a
very long time -- and it isn't modal.
If anyone wants it, please let me know.
