I have to disagree. I'm a Metacard (Rev's engine) developer & recently 
completed a large-ish multimedia project which was multi-platform (mac/pc) 
and could have been developed with Director. I made the decision to use MC 
(at that point 2.4 still at alpha stage) because of 2 main reasons:

1. mc2.4 introduced Quicktime effects for the "show with visual effect" 
command. Cool.
2. I could easily customise my development environment & have complete 
control. Possible with director but the integration would not be as smooth.

Now with more control over "player" objects, MC/REV are more that equal to 
other multimedia tools. And at their core is easy syntax code. Not bad.
