My $0.02: 7.5.x was poor, but 7.6.1 was a stable system. (I wasn't a revolution user then, so I make no warranties, but) if you're happier with system 7 than 8/9, it might be worth updating to 7.6.1 first and see if that solves your problem. (I managed to hold fast on 7.6.1 for years, bypassing 8 altogether, until finally I upgraded to a machine that required 9.)
