No icons in buttons

Why is it that when I use standard button icons in my buttons, then 
launch the stack directly (double-click it when the Rev development 
environment is not running) none of the icons from the standard or 
backward compatible libraries show up?  Do I need to import them into 
the stack somehow?  Will they be copied into the application when I 
compile it?
