Bill,

Go to File -> Import as Control - Image File. This "embeds" the image into
the current stack.

BTW, you can check to see if an image has been embedded or is referencing a
file on disk by getting the "filename" of the image. If the result is empty,
the image is embedded. If it returns a pathname, the image is referenced.
