A Useful-Thing...selected by Dennis Cummins. This week's Useful-Thing is an extension to the Quick Launch toolbar and program execution helper: AssistBar 99 "AssistBar 99 is a program to extend the ability of Windows Task Bar. Task Bar lets you switch among running applications easily and quickly, but when it comes to executing a program, the use of Start Menu is usually a time- consuming affair. It even becomes painful to execute programs that are buried three levels deep inside the Start Menu. AssistBar 99 solves this problem. AssistBar 99 is a launcher that gives you quick access to your programs, files or folders in a single click. The items are displayed above TaskBar, thus saving your precious desktop space (this depends on where to place AssistBar 99)." Dennis comments on the program, "This program extends the Quick Launch. It will sit any where you want it to sit. Left or right side of screen in any position. Top or bottom of screen any where you like. There is a small protrusion where you can place you mouse cursor over and it will pop out all the way across the screen. That gives you lots of room to add many programs to the bar. It is easy to add to. Just put it in edit mode, open Windows Explorer then drag and drop. Simple as that. It can also be configured to use hotkeys to open. It is Freeware but asks you to register. But the registration number is right there on the registration page. Easy enough to do." Dennis further notes "You can register the product by clicking the [Register...] from the popup menu that appears when you click the letter "AssistBar 99" on the program's main bar." See registration page for full instructions.
