A very off-topic rant, but I agree largely with the sentiments - a choice between Windows and Linux isn't ideal. I'd have loved AmigaDOS + Workbench to have evolved properly. I'm currently pinning my hopes on the PS3, as Sony are providing it with Linux. *If* they add a decent custom UI and simplify it down, it'll be like an Amiga : easy to use, closed box, known hardware with no driver issues, and a user base of millions encouraging 'homebrew' development. Having spent years troubleshooting people's computer problems, whether at home or at work, I'm of the opinion it's long past time we had a computer designed from the ground up to be idiot proof. All this legacy stuff is holding us back.

In my dream www.qnx.com is the ruling operating system.

And Apple OS is only design to theme your userinterface.

Amiga workbench was 1000 times better than WinXP.
