Hi Garry

The 'Soften Tool' is featured in the Flash tutorial on Rob
D's site www.kotiposti.net/~vesameskanen/softsel.swf . It
looks cool and I've been wanting to try it out , so ...

1) Download the shockwave video again .
2) Build an SDS rectangular mesh .
3) In edit mode click/drag some points out .
4) Try to move these points but no handle like in video ?
How about Uncheck the 'Hide Coordinates Handle in Edit Mode' in the 'Wire' Tab of the 'Select' Window

5) Try to get large handle showing but give up .
6) Time for 'Paint Selection' tool .
7) Hunt the entire interface ... including menus .
8) Find Paint Select in 'Misc Tools' pulldown menu .
How about using the good old HotKey for it (Alt + Space Keys)
Which you would otherwise found out, if you set 'selection painter' as a keyword in the manual, and also found out that you can set 'Soft Selection' for the 'Selection Painter' as well as using the 'Soften Tool'....
Or searched the 'Hotkeys' list...
9) Try a 'Freehand Selection' like in video .
10) Hunt everywhere for info on freehand selection .
11) Check manual for freehand info . Give up .
How about with the manual open, and in the field for a keyword, type in 'select', Select Tools shows up and it says "To use the lasso selector press down and hold the '4' key above the letter keys, press down the left mouse button and draw a freeform curve around the object or handle to select."

22) Find "Soften" tool on the 'View Control' (???) later .
Yep, some things are abit too little documented..
Still, you could have got a clue to it, if you typed in 'soft' in the keywordfield, and the 'Soften Tool' would show up in the manual, showing its Icon, which could have let you found the toolbutton faster in the 'View Controls' area...

23) Find "#4" is hotkey for Freehand Selection (later) .
You have used RS prior to V6, so how can this hotkey be such a big news to you..?

Have fun with the cool tools in V6 !

Take Care
