Yeah, you guessed right Zdenek ;-) Thanks for the hint. At the time of testing, magnolia run in "public" mode and therefor I couldn't see the "Edit Form Settings" button.
After getting around the "to many open files" issue on ubuntu I now have both instances running and I guess things are setup as they should be. At least page activation works and I can continue experimenting in the near future.
