Thx, to you both, but neither approach remedies the symptom. I took what I learned from your recommendations and tried a few other things and now the images are rendering from:
/.imaging/stk/pop/content-small/website/ I've tried deleting content-small from the theme variations and the via the JCR browser on the images repository, and clearing cache after that. Still, super small images. Even tried uploading same images with new names. Nada. Zip. Zilch.
