Hi Andrew,

One of the reasons is that you run the risk of losing stuff when you upgrade 
magnolia, and a new version of the demo-project updates its content.
In general, I think it is a better idea to copy anything you want from the 
demo-project into your own site, theme & template definitions. That way you're 
safe, and keep the original demo-project as a reference.

Greg,
  Could you please tell us why you wouldn't use the demo-projet as a quick 
start to a new project?  If that is what you mean.  I was about to do that when 
I read this post.
