There is a module on the forge (workflow-tools?) that should allow you to see 
what's the state of workflow engine and how many items are where.

And yes you can also use the groovy console to either obtain instance of 
workflow engine from the workflow module or to go and browse content of those 
two workspaces directly, but parsing those items is non trivial and would 
require you to pbly create some script and parse xml config files from workflow 
engine to find out the status.
