We are using at least 768 Mo for heapspace ... I think Magnolia needs at least that :-)

Yes, but you have to make your custom coding at the place where the menu
is configured.

You are using 3.0? This should not happen anymore. Maybe you have to grant only slightly more memory to the webapp to guarantee the activation process.
