Hi

We use magnolia as cms system. Now one of our customers wants to have a forum implemented. In the forum, any user should be able to post. Are there existing magnolia applications that have already implemented this? I believe magnolia was not made for content that any user can update.

What might pose some difficulties is the following:

- The posts would only be available on the public instance as they are posted there

And that's how it's meant to be, it is public data, not author'ed data. In the case of the ("new") forum module, it uses a separate workspace, so it shouldn't pose any "synchronization" issues.

- How can the author delete unwanted posts, as the are only available on the public website

You have a complete admin interface on the public instance of magnolia, too.
All "moderation" should happen on the public site.

- How to best save posts

Right now I tend to have a separate database for the posts. That database could then be accessed from a custom template from the author and the public instances. However, this would not be very elegant as this is kind of not using magnolia and its functionality. Are there any better ways?

Storing it in jcr like the new module does gives some extra facilities that you don't really want to invent on top of a rdbms (the tree structure and the references, for instance)

Yes I have seen this. From what I have read, this implementation has got the major drawback that every time the forum page is activated, all posts are deleted.

Uh ? Maybe this was based on the "old" implementation of a forum that was made for Magnolia 2. The new implementation is really different; if you could clarify your concerns, I'd be glad to answer, help or see that what you need is somehow feasible with the new forum module.

This is why I am reluctant to use start playing with this source (apart from the fact that is suppossedly not finished

There's no such thing as a free lunch...

and quite akward to get running anyway)

Uh ? Again, please clarify what your problems are, and I'll be glad to help.

Cheers
