Personally, I would add the warning about data loss at the top and
point to the page you made. I don't know if you made the other
corrections, but if they are solid corrections, I would just change
the page text. It is a wiki after all and I don't think anyone can
expect that it wont change.

Sorry for the lack of precision concerning the version of Magnolia
DataSourcePersistenceManager could use. I've just fixed it, check

Regarding the
http://www.magnolia.info/wiki/Wiki.jsp?page=SettingUpMySQLRepository
page, as I'm not responsible for the project I hesitated to delete all
that was written and replace with the DataSourcePersistenceManager
link
as it is just an alternate solution to the officials (not totally
working) one.
So I've just added my comment at the end. Perhaps it would be good to
refactor the page a little bit isn't it ?

Hi James,
I have been trying out magnolia 3.0x for a couple months now and
immediately
changed to MySql database from the default only due to the fact
that i
wanted to run Magnolia in a clustered environment which up until now
i have
been unable to do (i believe 3.1 will cover this).
The issue with the broken pipe is quite common and i did experience
this but
it seems to be fixed by using the DataSourcePersistenceManager. I
think its
imperative you use it if using MySql
I went through the instructions on the wiki and they seem to be
pretty
thorough. Just follow them with all corrections and you won't go
wrong. I
know its not ideal, but it works.

I have been putting off upgrading from Magnolia 2 to 3 because I've
heard the default database 3 ships isn't as good as Magnolia 2.
So I
wanted to change the default database. I'm not a database guru
(and
completely ignorant of Java database technology), so I'm not
anxious
to embark on paths that are not well documented with step by step
instructions.
I've looked at this for version 3:
http://www.magnolia.info/wiki/Wiki.jsp?
page=SettingUpMySQLRepository
And indeed it looks badly documented with things such as
corrections
at the bottom. Why not just correct the incorrect
instructions? I'm
timid to try to try it. And then there is the comment at the
bottom
about using the DataSourcePersistenceManager because following the
instructions on that page could cause some:
"Broken Pipe" error and could possibly loose some data.
Awk!!!!!!!!
Then there is DataSourcePersistenceManager:
http://www.magnolia.info/wiki/Wiki.jsp?
page=DataSourcePersistenceManager
It doesn't give the version number it is valid for! Is this for
Magnolia 2 or 3.0? It is obvious that version 3.1 (not
available as
a download package, so I'm not going to use it!) uses this:
http://www.magnolia.info/wiki/Wiki.jsp?
page=SettingUpMySQLRepositoryWithMagnolia3.1
So my question is, what do people recommend for the most stable
database solution? And are there easy to follow step by step
instructions on setting up alternate databases? Or should I just
stick with the default?
