I'm looking to develop an RSS feed for Magnolia 3 CE. (Yes, I know
the EE has this functionality)
It seems like it is actually quite trivial to do in Magnolia - anyone
done this in CE? I can make a wiki page once I have it done, but
thought I would run my idea here first to see if there are any
problems you see with it.
First - build a JSP template that will spit out the RSS XML - here's
an example JSP that does RSS (just not with Magnolia content) -
http://www.javareference.com/jrexamples/viewexample.jsp?id=117
Second - map a MIME type to the template that will have the server
serve it up as text / XML
http://www.magnolia.info/wiki/Wiki.jsp?page=CreatingXMLOutput
Third -
If you want to have all pages of a certain template have RSS feed
implementations - map the templates based on their extensions:
http://www.magnolia.info/wiki/Wiki.jsp?
page=ChoosingTemplateBasedOnExtension
(that last one says it is only valid for v20 and v21 - would the
subtemplate method work in 3?)
What I like about this approach is that it makes it possible to
really define what exactly you want to be included in the RSS feed at
a low level. I'm only planning to use this on one section of a site I
am working on - a "news" section. There isn't much else that would
make sense to have an RSS feed for.
