Thanks Will. I fixed the public instance requiring login by editing
the
base user... so presumably it is 'base' rather than 'anonymous' that
is used
by public users
There is no "base" user, and by default, the anonymous user only has
the anonymous role. When not logged it, it is the "anonymous" user who
is taken into account.
The base *role* is only there to help with some basic default
permissions valid for most users.
