Well, that was the first bit of useful info about the module I have
gotten so far: Let it bootstrap and there will be helpful sample
pages! That was fairly easy I would say.
Thanks Ruben for the help. I guess I'll give it an other shot. And I
will see if I can combine it with our uri security filter extension

I am no authority on the PUR module but we have been using it before
and it seems to be simple enough - once you drop in he jar in to
your WEB-INF/lib directory and bootstrap witth he samples turned on
you will get a couple of pages and paragraphs showing basic login/
logout and registration. It can be a little confusing at fist if you
run it in an admin instance since in that case you are already
logged in. Try to run it on a public instance - that makes way more
sense.
