Hi Simon,

This is something we're looking at for 4.x; please get in touch on the dev list. (can't promise reactions right away though, we're pretty busy on other topics atm)

For a while now I've been wanting to access magnolia functions and
content via external applications, so I'm looking into what options
are currently available and any modules or core enhancements that
might already exist. The key requirement would be to communicate with
the magnolia backend from another application, possibly running on a
different server, in order to retrieve content, and to create pages
and users within the system. A mechanism like XML-RPC would seem to be
ideal for this purpose.

Looking at the mailing list archives, and through jira, there doesn't
seem to have been much discussion of these sorts of features. The
closest thing I could find was jira entry MAGNOLIA-587
(http://jira.magnolia.info/browse/MAGNOLIA-587), but this is referring
more to the AJAX integration mechanism than for external apps, and
doesn't seem to have been progressed anyway.

So is there any work in this area that I have missed? If not then my
intention is to write a module to add an XML-RPC integration layer to
magnolia. If anyone else is interested in this and wants to
collaborate on the architecture and/or coding of this then let me
know.

Thanks for any input,

Simon
