Yup. Or -march=k8. The recommendation for building a 32-bit chroot in the gentoo docs says -march=athlon-xp though, possibly because there was some confusion about whether you'd really get it 32 bit if you set k8 or athlon64. I don't know, I didn't test, so I simply went with the recommendation.

For the full system and the hosting thing, I've been wanting to update the
root_fs section of the UML site, but also I've been fearing that I can't test
whether the FS is trojaned or not...

I guess that would be difficult, yes. For gentoo you could always do a "emerge sync && emerge --emptytree world", and then see what etc-update says about changed files. If there hasn't been a long time between the original build of the root_fs and the test, very few files should have changed, and the changes should be easy to see in the diffs.

Rebuilding the whole system would take a day or so though. :-)
