That's less than 12MB for each uml instance, I don't know what command 
line you used or what type of guest you are trying to run, but that is 
unlikely to work. Most distros will require ~32MB just to give you an 
ssh login.

You can try trimming the kernel, but you will only shave off a few KBs, 
changing the guest (ie: using busybox) will make a real difference.
