Is this a 64-bit system by any chance?
If it is, a 64-bit guest is more likely to work.

Try upgrading the host kernel to 2.6.20.3 or 2.6.21-rcX
I supposed you did read the warning message at the top of the page?
(there are issues with host kernels > 2.6.15)
