aufs is the 'new unionfs'.  You might want to check it out at
http://aufs.sourceforge.net/aufs.html although I personally haven't used
it.  Is there any chance of using ubd as a module to achieve this or is
it only usable with UML?  If so, how would I go about doing so?  Thanks
for your help.
